Air Jordan 4s fit true to size for most people, so start with your usual Nike or Jordan size. The shoe is snug and slightly narrow across the forefoot, which is why some wearers say it runs small. If you have wide feet, go up half a size; if your feet are standard or narrow, stay true to size.
Quick answer: Buy your normal Nike size in Jordan 4s. Wide feet: go up half a size. Women: add 1.5 to the men's size. GS 7Y = women's 8.5 = men's 7.
Do Jordan 4s run true to size?
Yes. Nike's own Air Jordan 4 sizing guide says the shoe generally fits true to size for standard foot shapes, and sizing guides from Sole Retriever, PUSHAS, The Sole Supplier and Stadium Goods all reach the same verdict. Length is not the issue. Where people notice a difference is width: Nike notes many wearers find the 4 narrower at the metatarsals (the widest part of the forefoot), and The Sole Supplier calls it one of the more snug Jordan silhouettes.
That snug forefoot is behind the common search "do Jordan 4s run small?". They don't run short. They wrap the foot closely, especially fresh out of the box. If your toes have room at the front but the sides feel tight, that is normal for an AJ4 and usually eases with wear.
Air Jordan 4 size chart (US, UK, EU, cm)
Conversions below come from Nike's official men's footwear size chart. Foot length is Nike's listed foot length converted to centimetres. The JP/box cm figure is the number printed on the box label, which Nike notes is different from foot length.

Women's pairs use Nike's women's chart, so the UK and EU printed on a women's box can differ slightly from the men's column above. Go by US size and foot length when comparing.
Jordan 4 sizing for wide feet
If you have wide feet, go up half a size. This is the most consistent advice across sources: Nike recommends a half size up for wider feet (and for men with a typical C or D width who want more forefoot room), and PUSHAS, Sole Retriever, The Sole Supplier and Woovin all say the same. Going up half a size adds room through the toe box without making the heel sloppy.
Before you size up, try Nike's two simple tweaks: loosen the laces through the forefoot more than you normally would, and switch to thinner socks. Thick socks take up space in an already snug shoe. If the pair still pinches across the little toe after that, the half size up is the right call.
Jordan 4 sizing for narrow feet
Stay true to size. PUSHAS and Sole Retriever both recommend your usual size for standard or narrow feet. The 4's snug forefoot and adjustable lacing wings already hold a narrow foot well, so lace them a little tighter rather than dropping a size.
Retro vs Retro SE vs Reimagined vs SB: does sizing change?
- Retro: the standard general release. Fits true to size; wide feet go up half a size.
- Reimagined: reworked closer to the 1989 original shape. Nike recommends true to size for both standard and wide feet, and The Sole Supplier also says to stay true to size because the shape is a touch roomier. See the Jordan 4 Retro Bred Reimagined.
- SB: Nike says the SB pattern was built to be more accommodating in the forefoot and recommends true to size. Sole Retriever notes newer Jordan 4s since the 2023 SB collaboration use this reworked shape and are more forgiving for all-day wear. Examples: Jordan 4 Retro SB Navy and Jordan 4 x Nike SB Pine Green.
- Retro SE: SE means Special Edition, usually a change of materials or detailing. Nike doesn't publish separate SE sizing, so follow the standard Retro advice and check the upper material. Examples: Jordan 4 Retro SE Photon Dust and Jordan 4 Retro SE Craft Medium Olive.
Women's and GS Jordan 4 sizing
Women's Jordan 4s fit true to size. Nike's men's and women's sizes sit exactly 1.5 apart, so add 1.5 to a men's size to get the women's equivalent (men's 8 = women's 9.5). Nike notes the toe box on women's pairs can feel tighter than other sneakers, so wide feet should still go up half a size. Shop women's pairs like the Jordan 4 Retro Seafoam (W) and the Jordan 4 x A Ma Maniére While You Were Sleeping (W).
GS (Grade School, or big kids) sizes run up to 7Y. A Y size is the same number in men's (7Y = men's 7) and 1.5 lower than women's (7Y = women's 8.5). If you're a women's 8.5 or under, GS pairs such as the Jordan 4 Military Black (GS) or Jordan 4 Bred Reimagined (GS) are an option.
| GS (Y) | US Women's | US Men's | UK | EU |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3.5Y | 5 | 3.5 | 3 | 35.5 |
| 4Y | 5.5 | 4 | 3.5 | 36 |
| 4.5Y | 6 | 4.5 | 4 | 36.5 |
| 5Y | 6.5 | 5 | 4.5 | 37.5 |
| 5.5Y | 7 | 5.5 | 5 | 38 |
| 6Y | 7.5 | 6 | 5.5 | 38.5 |
| 6.5Y | 8 | 6.5 | 6 | 39 |
| 7Y | 8.5 | 7 | 6 | 40 |

Jordan 4 vs Jordan 1, Jordan 3 and Jordan 11 sizing
| Model | Fit vs your usual Nike size | Compared with the Jordan 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Air Jordan 4 | True to size | Snug forefoot; wide feet go up half |
| Jordan 1 (Low, Mid, High) | True to size | Same size as your AJ4 for most people |
| Jordan 3 | True to size | Similar fit; same size for most people |
| Jordan 11 | True to size | Same size; snugger at the midfoot and ankle on highs |
| Nike Dunk | True to size | Same size; wide feet go up half |
| Nike Air Force 1 | Runs big | Go half a size down from your AJ4 size |
The short version: your Jordan 1, Jordan 3, Jordan 11 and Dunk size is your Jordan 4 size. The Air Force 1 is the exception. Nike itself recommends going half a size down in AF1s because of the roomy toe box, so don't copy your AF1 size across to a pair of 4s.
Do Jordan 4s stretch or break in?
A little. Nike says the Jordan 4 may need a short break-in period, and The Sole Supplier and PUSHAS both note the upper softens and moulds to your foot after a few wears. How much depends on the material:
- Nubuck and suede (for example the Jordan 4 Black Cat (2025) and Jordan 4 Thunder (2023)): slightly stiff at first, then soften over a few wears, according to Sole Retriever and Woovin.
- Tumbled leather (Reimagined pairs): soft out of the box with almost no break-in, according to Sole Retriever and The Sole Supplier.
Break-in eases pressure across the sides of the foot. It won't add length, so if your toes touch the end, you need the next size up.
How to measure your foot (cm)
- Tape a sheet of paper to a hard floor against a wall.
- Stand on it with your weight even and your heel against the wall.
- Have someone mark the tip of your longest toe and the back of your heel.
- Measure between the marks in centimetres, then repeat with the other foot.
- Use the longer measurement and match it to the foot length column in the chart above.
Nike's advice if you land between two sizes: size up. Remember the cm on the shoe box is the JP size, not your foot length.

Jordan 4 sizing FAQ
Do Jordan 4s run small?
No. Air Jordan 4s fit true to size in length, so most people should buy their usual Nike size. They are snug through the forefoot, which is why some people feel they run small. If you have wide feet, go up half a size.
Should I size up in Jordan 4s?
Only if you have wide feet, prefer a roomier fit or wear thick socks. In those cases go up half a size. With standard or narrow feet, stay in your usual Nike size.
Are Jordan 4s the same size as Jordan 1s?
Yes. Both models fit true to size, so most people wear the same size in each. The Jordan 4 feels more snug across the forefoot, so wide-footed buyers sometimes go up half a size in the 4 only.
What size is 7Y in women's?
On Nike's official chart, a 7Y (Grade School) is a US women's 8.5 and a US men's 7. 7Y is the largest GS size. Above that, sizing moves to men's.
How do I convert men's Jordan 4 sizes to women's?
Add 1.5 to the men's size. A US men's 8 is a US women's 9.5, and a US men's 9 is a US women's 10.5. To go from women's to men's, subtract 1.5.
Do Jordan 4 Reimagined pairs fit differently?
No sizing change is needed. Nike recommends true to size for Reimagined pairs for both standard and wide feet. Their shape was reworked closer to the 1989 original.
Do Jordan 4s stretch or need breaking in?
A little. Nike says the Jordan 4 may need a short break-in period. Nubuck and suede uppers soften over a few wears, while the tumbled leather on Reimagined pairs is soft from the start. Break-in eases pressure but will not fix a pair that is too short.
