Salomon size chart (US, UK, EU and cm)

Find your foot length or your usual UK or EU size, then read across to the US men's (unisex) size, which is the size to choose on our Salomon listings. Then apply the model advice below.

Do Salomon shoes run small?

In length, no. In width, some do. Salomon's sportstyle range grew out of trail running shoes, which are built to lock the foot in place on rough ground. Solefeed says the XT-6 locks the foot down "more like a trail shoe than a loose lifestyle sneaker", and Sneakerjagers says Salomon sneakers generally run small and narrow.

That snug wrap is why the XT-6 is the one model most guides tell you to size up in. Others, like the XT-4 and ACS+, have a bit more room and fit true to size for most people.

Model notes and where sources disagree

• XT-6: The Sole Supplier and Sneakerlens recommend half a size up, Sneakerjagers suggests considering half up, and Flatspot says many customers go half up. Mr Porter lists it as true to size, and Solefeed says to start true to size but expect a narrow fit. They agree on the cause: the length is right, the width is tight. Narrow feet stay true to size; everyone else goes half up.
• XT-4 OG: The Sole Supplier, Sneakerjagers and Solefeed all say true to size, and Sneakerjagers says it runs slightly larger than the XT-6. Solefeed still expects a snug forefoot, so wide feet go half up.
• XT-Whisper: The Sole Supplier says true to size. Solefeed says it runs about half a size small for anyone with a slightly wide forefoot. Regular feet: usual size. Wide feet: half up.
• ACS Pro and ACS+ OG: Solefeed says the ACS Pro works true to size for average feet but needs care between sizes. Sneakerjagers says the ACS Pro is most comfortable half up, and that the ACS+ runs a bit looser.
• Speedcross 3: the most split. The Sole Supplier and Solefeed say it runs small and recommend half up. Net-a-Porter says it fits large and suggests half down, and 74% of Zappos reviewers rated it true to size. True to size is the safest middle ground.

Women's Salomon sizing

Salomon lists the XT-6, XT-4 OG, XT-Whisper, XT-Pathway 2 and XT-Quest as unisex on its US site. Unisex pairs are sized in US men's, and on Salomon's official chart the US women's size is exactly one above the men's. A women's 8 is a men's 7, and a women's 9.5 is a men's 8.5. Gravitypope's Salomon listings give the same rule: a men's 5 is a women's 6.

This is a different gap from Nike, New Balance and ASICS, where women's is 1.5 above men's. If you work it out from your Nike women's size you'll land half a size small, which hurts in a snug shoe like the XT-6.

The easiest way to avoid mistakes: match your usual UK or EU size, which is the same for men and women on Salomon's chart, or use your women's US size minus one. If a women's figure shown next to a size doesn't match the chart above, go by the US men's (unisex) number.

Salomon vs Nike, New Balance and ASICS sizing

• Compare by US men's, not UK. A US men's 9 is a UK 8.5 in Salomon but a UK 8 in Nike and ASICS.
• Jordan 1 and Nike Dunk: start from that US size. Take it in the XT-4, XT-Whisper and ACS Pro, and go half up in the XT-6. Sneakerlens puts the XT-6 half a size above your Dunk size.
• Nike Air Force 1: runs big, so if you sized down in AF1s, start from half a size above your AF1 size, then apply the XT-6 half up.
• New Balance and ASICS: compare by US men's size, but don't copy women's conversions across, because both use a 1.5 gap. See our New Balance size guide and ASICS size guide.

How to measure your foot

1. Put a sheet of paper on a hard floor against a wall.
2. Stand on it with your heel against the wall, wearing the socks you usually wear.
3. Mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall in centimetres.
4. Measure both feet and use the longer one.
5. Find that foot length in the chart above, then apply the model advice.

Measure later in the day, when your feet are at their largest. Thick hiking socks take up room, so size up half if you'll wear them.
