These measurements come from the size charts on Denim Tears' own product pages. Width is measured flat across the chest or waist, so double it for the full circumference. Lay a piece you already own flat and compare.

Does Denim Tears run big or small?

Neither, for most pieces. Denim Tears describes its Cotton Wreath hoodie, its tees and its denim jacket as a "regular fit", and its Cotton Wreath crewneck page says it "fits true to size" and to size up for a looser fit. Buy the size you wear in most hoodies and tees.

Regular here still means relaxed. On Denim Tears' chart a medium hoodie measures 64cm across the chest, which is 4cm wider than a medium Basic Stüssy Hoodie on Stüssy's own chart, and Stüssy calls that hoodie a relaxed fit. So the hoodie drapes rather than clings. Allstar Shop's Denim Tears size page goes further and calls the fit oversized, suggesting one size down for a classic fit. Where sources disagree, we recommend your usual size: it gives the look Denim Tears designs for, and sizing down is easy to regret in a cotton hoodie.

Cotton Wreath hoodies and crewnecks

Sweatpants and shorts

Denim Tears cuts its Cotton Wreath sweatpants to a relaxed "Core fit" through the leg, with an elasticated waist and cuffed hem. Buy your usual size. The inseam is 76cm in every size, so sizing up adds width, not leg length. The Cotton Wreath sweatshorts are a relaxed fit with a 25cm inseam, which sits just above the knee on most people. Buy the same size as your hoodie for a matching set, such as the Mono Cotton Wreath Sweatpants Brown and Cotton Wreath Shorts Black.

Tees and long sleeves

Denim Tears lists its standard tees as a regular fit, and the medium on its chart is 58cm across the chest. That's a normal streetwear tee: not tight, not boxy. Buy your usual size. The exception is the Cotton Wreath Tall Tee, which Denim Tears says has "an exaggerated oversized fit" and comes in combined sizes (XS/S, M/L, XL/XXL), so check the chart on that one. Long sleeves such as the Long Sleeve Cotton Wreath T-Shirt fit like the tees.

What size Denim Tears should I get?

Denim Tears is unisex and labelled in men's sizes. If you usually shop women's, compare the chest width above with a top you already own rather than guessing a conversion.

Denim Tears x Levi's jeans sizing

The Cotton Wreath Jean is built on the Levi's 501. Denim Tears describes it as inspired by the 1954 cut: straight through the seat and thigh, sitting at the waist, with a slightly tapered leg. Sizing is Levi's waist by length in inches, so a 32x32 is a 32-inch waist and 32-inch inseam.

• Light-wash pairs: buy your usual Levi's 501 size. Levi's explains that its Shrink-to-Fit 501s are raw denim that skip the pre-shrinking stage, while washed pairs like the Cotton Wreath Jean Light Wash have already been through the wash.
• Raw selvedge pairs: Denim Tears says its unsanforised selvedge jean shrinks about 10% in the wash. Buy your true size if you won't wash them, or one waist size up if you will.
• Between sizes: the denim has no stretch, so take the bigger waist.

Denim Tears' own Baggy Cotton Wreath Denim Pant also uses waist sizes. It's cut deliberately baggy with an 86cm inseam, so buy your usual waist and expect a long, stacked leg.

Jackets

Denim Tears calls its Cotton Wreath Denim Jacket a regular fit in heavyweight 14oz denim. A medium measures about 59cm across the chest and 66cm long on Denim Tears' chart, so it sits around the hip and fits over a tee or light knit. Buy your usual jacket size, like the Cotton Wreath Denim Jacket Dark Wash. If you plan to wear it over a hoodie, go one size up. Levi's collaboration jackets such as the Denim Tears x Levi's Overdyed Jacket and puffers such as the Cotton Wreath Puffer Jacket follow the same rule: your usual size, or one up for layering.

How to check your size

1. Lay a hoodie or tee that fits you well flat on a table, smoothed out.
2. Measure straight across the chest, 2–3cm below the armpits, in centimetres.
3. Measure the body length from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem.
4. Find the closest numbers in the chart above. If you land between two sizes, choose by the look you want: the smaller size for a neater fit, the bigger one for a relaxed fit.

For jeans, measure the waistband of a pair you like flat, double it, and match it to your Levi's waist size.
