Buy Le Bambino if you want a slim, easy everyday Jacquemus bag you can wear on the shoulder or across the body. Buy Le Chiquito if you want the sculpted top-handle bag that kicked off the mini-bag trend and turns heads every time you carry it.
Quick answer: Le Bambino is the practical pick, Le Chiquito is the statement pick. Both are in stock now in our Jacquemus collection, with free NZ shipping on every order.
Who is Jacquemus?
Jacquemus is the label Simon Porte Jacquemus founded in Paris in 2009, after moving to the city from the south of France at 18. He named it after his late mother's maiden name, Jacquemus, and she has stayed a constant reference in his work. The south of France runs through everything the brand does: sun-bleached colours, clean shapes and a sense of humour about proportion. Nowhere is that clearer than in the bags. Two families in particular, Le Chiquito and Le Bambino, have become the pieces people recognise from across the room, and they are the two we get asked about most at Im Your Wardrobe.
The Le Chiquito family: the bag that started the mini-bag craze
Le Chiquito first appeared in Jacquemus' spring-summer 2018 collection and is widely credited with starting the mini-bag trend. It is a structured, boxy top-handle bag with a gold-tone logo plaque on the front, and it has been carried by Dua Lipa and a long list of celebrities since. The Le Chiquito Moyen also comes with a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap, so you can carry it by hand or wear it on the shoulder.
The versions we stock in NZ:
- Le Chiquito (mini): the smallest size, best as a jewel-like accent. See the Le Chiquito Signature Handbag Mini in pink.
- Le Chiquito Moyen: the medium size (moyen is French for medium), a more practical size with the same sculpted shape. We have the Le Chiquito Moyen in black, white and a croco-embossed pink.
- Le Chiquito Noeud: swaps the classic handle for a looped, wrapped handle, including the Le Chiquito Noeud Coiled Handbag in lilac.
The Le Bambino family: the everyday Jacquemus bag
Le Bambino is a flat, rectangular flap bag with a magnetic flap closure, a top handle, a detachable shoulder strap and a metal logo plaque on the front. It is one of the brand's most recognisable bags, and it is easy to wear: slim enough to sit neatly under the arm, but with a proper shape that holds its own with a simple outfit.
- Le Bambino: the classic flap bag, including the Le Bambino Flap Bag Mini in pink and the Le Bambino Top Handle Bag Small in black.
- Le Bambino Long: a longer, slimmer shape worn on the shoulder, like a modern baguette. The Le Bambino Long in light turquoise is one of our favourites.
- Le Grand Bambino: the larger version, with more room and a crossbody option. Try the Le Grand Bambino in red.
Le Bambino vs Le Chiquito: how do the sizes compare?
The two shapes are a similar width, but they wear very differently. Le Bambino is low and slim, while Le Chiquito Moyen is taller and deeper, so it reads as a mini handbag rather than a flap bag.
| Bag | Width | Height | Depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Le Bambino (standard) | 17.5cm | 9cm | 6.5cm |
| Le Chiquito Moyen | 18cm | 14cm | 8cm |

Which one suits you?
- You want one bag for everything: Le Bambino or Le Bambino Long. The flap shape works with jeans and a tee during the day and with a dress at night.
- You want a statement piece: Le Chiquito. The sculpted shape is the point, and it photographs beautifully.
- You need to fit more in: Le Grand Bambino, the larger take on the classic flap bag.
- You want something for events: Le Chiquito Noeud or the mini Le Chiquito, carried by hand like a piece of jewellery.
How to wear Le Bambino and Le Chiquito
Le Bambino looks best tucked high under the arm on its shoulder strap. Pair the Long in off white or light turquoise with a white tee, straight-leg denim and clean sneakers for an easy Auckland summer look, or wear a black Bambino with tailoring for work. Le Grand Bambino on the crossbody strap is the hands-free option for travel, markets and long days out.
Le Chiquito is designed to be carried by its top handle so the shape stays the hero. A bright Chiquito (pink, lilac or red) adds colour to an all-black or all-neutral outfit, which makes it a strong choice for weddings, the races and summer dinners. Clip on the shoulder strap when you need both hands free. Browse more statement pieces in our luxury designer bags collection.
